H1N1 with H & D

Here I am warm in my snuggie, with my Tamiflu, and toliet paper...because I ran out of tissues.

D know's how to say healthy...

Top 10 Pig Flu *MUST HAVES*

10. Hand Sanitizer- for keeping hands germ free after coughing and runny noses

9. Clorox Wipes and Lysol- to keep D and those around me from getting sick

8. Cough Drops- or Jolly Ranchers! yum! To keep your throat well lubricated and lessen violent coughs.

7. Sprite, Gatorade, Water, Apple Juice, Chicken Broth, etc.

6. Chap Stick

5. Tissues with Aloe-your nose will thank you!

4. A Thermometer- gotta keep checking on that fever.

3. Heating Pad/Ice pack- for various aches and pains

2. Tamiflu- A big shout out to D's work for providing employees and their family members with Tamiful. It saved me from a trip to the pharmacy today and allowed me to take my medication at an earlier time (hopefully lessening the effects of the flu)!!

drum roll, please

1. A Snuggie...I know what you are thinking...Halley you are obsessed...however in this situation the snuggie is perfect for providing warmth while suffering from chills and body aches. All day today I used a normal blanket but was FROZEN when I wasn't all the way "tucked in." Finally, around 9pm tonight I put on the snuggie and covered myself with a blanket. ta da! No more freezing!

Hi my name is Halley and I have H1N1.

......now I am going to pout.....

For those of you who were at my house on Sunday...DON'T WORRY!! I specifically asked the infectious disease doctor if being at my house would have put you at greater risk. He said no because the fever and severe symptoms started on Monday (not Sunday) and I was not contagious until I started with the fever (on Monday). Boo!! I'm sorry guys.

This if course would happen to me.

ranting and raving. yes. i am dramatic.

Ok, I haven't been on here in a while and I have to apologize because my first post back is going to be a complaint.

I am sick.

I think I offended God because why? why? WHY? am I sick right now? huh?

I use hand sanitizer 5x a day. literally. I Clorox wipe my desk. I Lysol the classroom.

But here I am at 4:40 in the morning hacking my lungs out, with a fever, chills, body ache, a burning chest/ears/throat, the hacking caused vomiting...which happened in the sink...because I couldn't make it one more step to the toilet.

oh yea, and D is out of town for the week.

Brilliant.

So much for my Trick or Treat plans or the local Halloween Parade.

At school they had to hire a sub for a sub (me). K...if you are reading this...DO NOT SUB FOR MY CLASS...they are covered in nasty germs.

I'm home attempting to keep my germs to myself.

-H

p.s. I am getting swabbed for pig flu tomorrow. ha ha ha. After everything that has happened this year I had better not have pig flu or I'm going to invest in a human bubble. seriously. I think it's necessary.

Happy Monday

Last week was C r A Z y!

I started my subbing job. Which was a bit nutty because the kids were excited about Mrs. R (their teacher) having her babies (twin girls). Then they were transitioning from one teacher to another, which meant testing every limit....twice....possibly three times. According to the class Mrs. R doesn't make them do science lessons and they get double recess? um. no. Mrs. R nor Mrs. Halley is a fool.

Last week I also started 3x a week massage therapy, chiropractic care, and physical therapy. All in all it is not that bad, or painful, just time consuming. I am a bit sore and have to ice my neck 20 mins on and 20 mins off 5x a day. I think it's making a difference. Thank goodness.

Being the klutz I am I fell twice on Thursday. It was rainy and slippery and I bruised my knees and stubbed my toe. ugh.

It's a new week. I am looking forward a fresh start. Doesn't the thought of a clean slate make Monday morning seem more appealing? I like it.

Friday!! Weekend Plans

HAPPY BIRTHDAY M!!
Today is my sister's birthday! Love you!

I am lovin' the fact that today is Friday. Here is what D and I will we doin':

Friday: No real plans. A movie? Dinner? I need to make some returns at the mall about 40mins away. Perhaps we'll do that tonight.

Saturday: D, me, H2/D2, M, D, & baby J, are all headed to Oktoberfest. I am not a beer drinker...at all....but am super excited about the beer garden, food, and music. It should be a great day.

Sunday: Church. Work picnic numero 2. Preparing for next week...meaning me working. The teacher I am subbing for is scheduled for an induction on Friday. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for her! ah! I have to be grown up and go to work every day. I haven't done that in a while. I'm excited to get back into the swing of things and to celebrate the holidays with a bunch of bright-eyed second graders : )

Hoping your weekend is relaxing and fun.

S L E E P

I having been complaining about insomnia for weeks!

First I wasn't sleeping because I was sick. My gallbladder was throbbing and my belly hurt. Generally I was not a happy camper.

Then it was because of the surgery. I was uncomfortable, couldn't roll over, and hyped up on drugs.

Finally, to top things off the car accident was traumatic. It jarred my back, I still couldn't sleep on my belly because of the surgery and now I had a goose egg on the back of my throbbing head. Not a good sleep situation.

My doctor prescribed multiple medications to help me relax and to induce sleep.

THEY DIDN'T WORK.

I was still up for an hour or two every night. D loves this trend.... ha ha ha.... not!

But last night, last night, I had the greatest night of sleep I've had in weeks.

What is my secret?

It's not medication. Or lavender oil. Or relaxation techniques.

no, no.

My sleep secret is 2nd graders.

Yesterday I subbed a half day for the class I will be taking over in a few weeks. They. wore. me. out. I was so so tired. So many questions. So many out-bursts. So much of my energy.

Oh well, I guess I'll take sleep any way I can get it. However, today I'm still taking it easy. : )

fall decorating...on a budget

Ohh boy!

I adore this time of year! I especially love dressing up my house for the harvest season. This year, D and I are watching our budget as we prepare to buy a house. So I had to get a bit crafty in my decorating. I think my house looks "pumpkin-licious!"
Guess how much I spent?

All my pumpkins came from the local farmers market. K and I went a few Thursday's ago and I fell in love with the giant and tiny pumpkins. However....we had a little itty problem. I cannot lift anything over 5lbs and K is pregnant...so getting these pumpkins to the car presented a problem. Luckily the friendly farmers and sales people carried them to the car for us. : )

The pumpkin door hanger came from Big Lots last fall. I paid $4.50 for it.

On the couch I added two orange down pillows. They came from TJ Maxx and were a steal! They are cozy and add a great pop of color.

On the kitchen table we have gorgeous orange paisley place mats. I bought the candle stick holders from Big Lots and the little pumpkins from the farmers market (I could manage to carry those!)

I have a few more harvest touches around the house..including a yummy candy dish next to the couch. Perhaps I will take more pictures later today.

Wanna know how much I spent? You know you do. I did it all on a budget. Are you ready?

$43!! For all my pumpkins, pillows, and candle sticks! Isn't that great!? D was so so proud.

Pillows- $20-Tj Maxx

Candle Sticks-$10-Big Lots (for all 3)

Pumpkins-$9-Farmers Market

Place Mats-$3.50-Tj Maxx

Go me.

Happy Harvest!

little turkey

On Friday I had the pleasure of visiting with my D/J and H2. D (not to be confused with my D. I could not remember her number) and her husband M just celebrated their first wedding anniversary last Sunday. I offered to babysit J as my "gift" for their anniversary. Little did they know.... I had big plans for my time with J....we were going to do a project for mom and dad.

Well, I got in my accident on the day they planned to go out = I didn't babysit. But I still had all my materials for the big project.

So Friday afternoon I went to D/J's house and stole her baby away for about an hour.

Isn't he precious?!

This is what we created:

H2 had to hold the poor guy down while I painted his hand, realized he would immediately clinch his fist, cry, hate me, etc and then again when I decided to try his foot instead.

Word to the wise....painting a 2 month old's hand to make a hand print is HARD. I highly recommend making a foot print instead.

Anywho ,Happy Anniversary D and M! Love you guys! Enjoy your first piece of artwork from J!

p.s.

oh yeah....I'm still waiting on the police dept to see if I can have a photo of the piece of metal that hit me. I talked to the officer who arrived at and wrote the report for the accident. He said the Property Officer has the object now and I have to talk to him. That's my project for Monday. I'll def. post a picture if I get one.

out of body experience

Since the accident I've been having these sort of "out of body" experiences. It's like I'm sitting, talking to friends, but my perspective is more like I'm looking on? It makes me feel a bit dizzy and out of sorts. The doctor says that's normal and I might not feel "quite right" for a few weeks. That's what happens with you get smacked in the head.

I am feeling much better. Just sore.

I think going out to lunch, visiting, and hanging out with friends helps to take my mind off things. So, thanks everyone.

I can't help but feel bad about all the bills I am racking up. Surgery, CAT scans, once a week doctor visits, now the car... Obviously none of this is my direct fault but it's all related to me, you know? Because the accident was a hit and run D and I (instead of the semi truck driver who hit me!) will be paying our $500 deductible and our rates will probably go up. lovely.

D and I are taking it easy this weekend. Just hanging around the house, possibly checking out a movie, visiting H2D2's new puppy Oliver!!, and going to a work picnic.

that's all folks.

Conversation @ 5am:

H: I feel like I got hit with a ton of bricks
D: Actually, you did.
H: Oh, ok. I'll try to go back to sleep.
